This piece is so good. It's got a lot about 80s phone culture and answering machines going on it, which is a major theme in her early work, but there's a very forward, present theme about US military intervention. 'Here come the planes. They're American planes.' and the part about 'chemical arms' and 'electronic arms'.
I bought an album several years ago that was a live performance of this piece from late in the month of September in 2001. The liner notes talked about the intensity of the 'here come the planes' section and the lasting consequences of us imperialism.
I love the political at of the 70s and 80s that's uncompromising in both the art and the politics and this is such a brilliant example of it that charted. Such a wonderful piece.
